Grzegorz Jonkajtys: Ark

Grzegorz Jonkarjty's 'Ark'

The 'Ark' is nothing short of a breathtaking, multimedia explosion of excellence oozing with rich details. The opening shots of the film are a matte painting, the last shot was entirely 3D, and the remainder of the film was primarily CG combined with miniatures. He filmed the miniatures with a Nikon D70 with a motion control rig and used CG with stop motion to produce his final, stylized effect. I couldn't believe that this took him two and a half years to make despite the fact that he was working on other high profile movies (Sin City, Pan's Labyrinth)

If your interested in the rest of his videos, be sure to take a look.

Fluid Forms

Fluid Forms

One more entry for tonight.
Came upon this site somewhat randomly. By using simple interfaces, a Lazar cutter, some other CNC type machines and some clever marketing, this company is offering some interesting, very custom, products. Check out the Street Clock and all of the Earth products.

Augmented Reality

This concept first came to my attention in an issue of Wired magazine and then in an issue of Esquire. With the use of 2D bar code like "QR" codes a camera with access to the Internet, such as a phone or webcam, can access more information unseen the page (reality). Though heavily used in Japan for industry and advertisement it seems to only have caught on in the States as something of a novelty. With this said though, the Japanese are starting to push the possibilities as one can see with this video.

A very fun animation and, strangely enough, roughly how my girlfriend and I met.

Back

After a year in Asia, I have returned to the states and to Chicago. My hope to continue this blog and the exploration of everything I love about design.
