I lay in bed on the 13th story of a St.Louis hotel. Out my window the river and the Arch. Easily the best view I have ever had of the Arch, I am not at the base, but it still towers 30+ stories above me. Saarinen died befor the Arch was completed. Could he have truly imagined the beauty of the structure. It's shape is so simple yet it holds a complexity that is almost impossible to grasp. America needs more Arches. Object that may only do one thing. One thing very beautifully.
